Tradedoubler TrackerTM - November 2005Following a steep rise in the number of European online sales generated through Tradedoubler in October, the latest Tradedoubler Tracker™ figures reveal a further increase of 26% in November. This overall growth in sales received a huge boost from the consumer electronics and entertainment sectors which saw sales escalate over the last month, by 67% and 90% respectively. Sales within both these sectors in November have already surpassed the highest levels reached in December last year, demonstrating that the festive season of 2005 has already proved to be a tremendously lucrative time for online retailers despite fears of a stagnation in overall Christmas spending this year.
Taking a closer look at Tradedoubler’s other leading sectors, sales within the financial services sector have emulated those of 2004 with a minimal increase in transactions. As is typical of this time of year, sales within the travel sector dropped marginally in November suggesting that consumers have already booked their Christmas travel arrangements. The pattern of sales within the telecoms sector has been considerably affected by certain mobile content providers and the drop in sales is unexpected for the time of year.
Tradedoubler’s recent European wide research into online Christmas shopping behaviour, published last month, indicated that consumers across Europe will do significantly more of their Christmas shopping online this year. This trend is already very much in evidence looking at the steep increases in sales both October and November.
